People or children who are sensitive or allergic to dairy can switch to a healthy tasty antioxidant rich black rice milk. Sensitivity to diary can cause mild symptoms like stomach upset, bloating, gastritis, congestion and/or allergic reactions like ear infections, severe congestion leading to wheezing or upper respiratory illness. I have personally seen tremendous improvement from ear infections from stopping cow’s milk and cheese for my son.

Also see the link that follows to see what research says about diary’s effects on health.

Vegan Diet seems to be the best!

In my quest for cure and prevention I have been reading a lot about nutrition and experimenting with some recipes at home . It looks like vegan diet does offer some of the best prevention of non communicable diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cancer, dementia, Alzheimers, heart disease etc.

Some of the best resources in how to prevent and even reverse these diseases are

  1. Fit for life by Harvey Diamond
  2. Reversing Heart Disease by Dr. Dean Ornish
  3. NutritionFacts.org by Dr.Michael Greger
  4. Fibroid tumors and Endometriosis by Dr. Susan M Lark

Even if people are vegetarians or non-vegetarians some of the food combinations that should be used or not used is explained in Fit for Life. For example combining fruits with any dairy causes gas problems like making milk shakes with fruits is not at all a good idea. You can experience this personally testing on your self. Eating fruits in empty stomach is the best option.Meat and dairy should not be combined as well as carbohydrate and dairy.

One exception in vegan diet is you can take fish oil supplement or flax oil for your Omega-3 which is very important to your brain health. The next is butter or clarified butter and Kefir also buttermilk that is fermented with probiotic cultures which keeps the gut healthy. Healthy gut bacteria helps in B12 production and absorption in the body which in turn avoids B12 deficient anemia. There is a possibility of B6 deficiency as well if B12 deficiency exist. So one thing could lead to chain of reactions, hence paying attention to how to eat and when to eat is as important as our daily exercise and jobs.

Kid prepared, approved and tested Green Juice!

photo(3)photo(2)

A great way to start a kid on a healthy path is to let them prepare their green juice and drink it. My daughter prepared this healthy juice by cleaning and cutting longitudinally the organic carrots (8-9), kale (3-4 handfuls), cilantro (1/2 bunch)and apples (2) and running it through the twin gear juicer of course with supervision. She loved it and it is the first time she drank without making a fuss. Glad it worked out.

Green juices create an alkaline state in the body that promotes health. My kids wanted to be cured of their sore throat and congestion as fast as possible and they decided to go for it. Hope this will become your family’s favorite receipe. Drink this for a healthy immune system and keen eyesight.

Nutritional Tips

I like to share some nutritional tips that worked for me.

1. Eat your fruits in empty stomach. Fruits that are more juicy stay in the stomach for about 15 -20 mins and pass to the intestine. So it is best to eat them alone and not combine with any other carbs, proteins or fats.

2. To avoid ear infections, rashes, gastric trouble, allergies, asthma, eczema it is best to avoid cow’s milk.

3. Combining carbs (especially grains) with cow’s milk/cheese is not a good idea if you have milk allergy or even sensitivity.

4. Vegetables that are close to being eaten fresh/raw and gently cooked on stove tops are more nutritious than any kind of processed ones.

5. Steam on stove tops and avoid microwave.

6. Green juices need not have asparagus, rhubarb and Spinach as they can cause build up of oxalic acid (may cause kidney stones) and better to eat cooked not raw.
